News & Highlights

Daniel 1's sports program was started to provide D1A's students with an opportunity to participate in competitive sports. Our coaches and volunteers are Christian parents who teach our players how to develop their athletic skills, play competitively and grow in Christian character and principles through the experience.

The program is funded through fund-raising activities and participation fees paid by the parents of the players. If any family currently enrolled with D1A or planning to enroll for the next school year that is not currently participating has any interest, they should contact Daniel 1 Academy ASAP. Do not wait until the start of the season in the fall. There will be fun activities and camps during the off-season which your child would miss.

Basketball

Daniel 1 Academy now has three separate teams for basketball including a boys middle school team, a boys high school team and a girls middle/high school team. We currently travel to the Nashville and Upper Cumberland area to play other homeschool and private school teams along with having home games that are mostly played at Cane Creek Gymnasium. D1A focuses on developing each student mentally and physically to be the best athlete they can be. Our season normally starts around the beginning of September for practices and will continue until February with games. An annual Sports Banquet is held in March each year to honor the students for their achievements.

Tryouts are open to all Daniel 1 students at the beginning of the season. Please contact the D1A office or Jack Holman for a Sports packet and more information on getting started.

Boys Middle School

Our current middle school team is coached by Carl and Dana Bullis. They have had three very successful years and average around 18 to 20 games per season with approximately half of those being held at home in Cookeville. This is an excellent program to develop 4th-8th graders with the basic skills of basketball, team spirit, sportsmanship and loyalty while having fun with the sport. We encourage your student to be a part of our program as a player, manager, statistician or scorekeeper. There is always room in our crowd for more supporting fans too! Please come out and join us.

Boys High School

The high school team is coached by Jack Holman and Addison Smith. This team will play teams from the Nashville/Franklin area as well as the Upper Cumberland area and average around 25 to 28 games per season. This is a great avenue for your 9th -12th grader to further develop their basketball skills along with build a sense of team loyalty and spirit to their school. As a player, the student develops a sense of leadership and sportsmanship on and off the court around the players and crowd members.

This is an exciting avenue to watch your child excel and be a part of a team whether as a player, manager, statistician, scorekeeper or videographer. Contact Jack Holman or the D1A office if your student is interested in joining the team this upcoming season.

Girls Middle/High School

We are excited that we were able to add this to our program this year and what a joy it has been to watch our Lady Lions develop along the way. They have completed a great year with tremendous success. This program will be open for students 6th -12th grade, and we cannot encourage you enough to allow your student to be involved. Our coaches Amanda & Alex Conner are great teachers and encouragers. The students will learn the basics of basketball and develop a sense of loyalty to their team. It is a joy to watch the teams come out and support each other on the court and the friendships that develop because of this. Whether it is a player, manager, statistician, scorekeeper or videographer, your student can find a way to be a part of this team and develop new friendships. Contact Jack Holman or the D1A office for more information on signing up.

Volleyball

Our girls volleyball team includes grades 6th - 12th grade and consists of a varsity and jr varsity team. This team is coached by Petreva Hobbs and they work hard to teach the girls the volleyball fundamentals. The Lady Lions play a wide range of teams from the Nashville/Franklin area to the Upper Cumberland area. Their season will begin in late June with practices and end in late October. This is a great way for your student to learn volleyball, how to be part of a team effort and develop new friendships. There is always room for students to participate as a player, manager, statistician, scorekeeper and videographer. Contact the D1A office or Jack Holman for more information on joining this team.
