About Daniel 1 Academy

Homeschooling in TN

Every state has different laws that allow homeschooling. In Tennessee parents of homeschooled children must register them at the beginning of each school year with one of two options. One option is to register with their local education agency (LEA—i.e. superintendent’s office.) The TN law then describes the requirements of that option.

The second and more popular option is to register with a private, church-related school located in the state of Tennessee. Under that option most requirements are set by the school itself.

The Organization of D1A

Daniel 1 Academy is a non-profit, Christian organization with a board of directors overseeing its policies and procedures. The founders and administrators are Jack and Cindy Holman. The Holmans have 2 grown children that they homeschooled K-12 grades. Other staff members of D1A also homeschooled their children. Together the staff of Daniel 1 has been helping other families homeschool since 1992.

Affiliation

Daniel 1 Academy is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International, ACSI, and is a Category IV (private) school. We are not accredited by TN’s State Dept. of Education. Click here for more information about how this affects our students.

Christian-based Organization

D1A is a Christian organization meaning it was started by a group of Christians, the board members are Christians as well as the staff. It is run on Christian principles and uses and promotes Christian homeschool materials. We do not allow things in the newsletter, on the website or taught in workshops that would contradict Christian values.

However, we believe all children are given to their parents by God and therefore, all parents, regardless of religious beliefs have the God-given responsibility to educate their own children. We do not require parents to sign a statement of faith in order to homeschool under D1A. We do ask that all parents respect the Christian foundation of Daniel 1 with appropriate behavior at all school events.
