INDEPENDENT HOMESCHOOLING
The Independent Program is the traditional do-it-yourself homeschooling. Parents are responsible for all aspects of their child's education: registering, choosing and purchasing curriculum, teaching and grading. They then report the semester grades to Daniel 1 Academy to be placed in the student's permanent file. Parent or guardian of student must have a high school diploma or GED and be able to show proof of it. This program is not available for any students who have been expelled, suspended from a previous school or put on probation.
PRIVATE SCHOOL AT HOME
Some families like the basic idea of keeping their children at home but for various reasons do not want total responsibility in all aspects. Daniel 1 offers two programs that combine benefits from homeschooling and private schooling. The state of Tennessee considers these programs as a type of private school instead of homeschool. On both programs a teacher at Daniel 1 evaluates the student's educational needs and designs a personalized curriculum plan for the whole school year. The student is given assignments in each subject to be completed every 3 weeks. One-on-one tutoring is available for those needing extra help. Students are tested and work is evaluated before the next 3-week assignment is given. All record-keeping is done by Daniel 1 Academy. Parents are freed from the stress of choosing curriculum and determining grades.
The Satellite Program is for families who can drive to Daniel 1 Academy in Cookeville about once a week.
The Correspondence Program is for families who like the services of the Satellite Program but prefer to receive the assignments and turn in completed work through the mail.
